Economist Tsiareshchanka, 60, has worked in various jobs, including engineer and professor. He was elected to parliament in 1995. This is his third run for the presidency.
In 1994 he announced his candidacy but withdrew and supported the eventual victor, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, and briefly worked in the presidential administration. He tried to run again in 2001 but failed to collect the required 100,000 signatures.
He is now the chairman of the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. He is running as an independent.
